Lord I pray that life’s circumstances, no matter what they are, help us remember that you delight in us, forever keep us, and have and will triumph over evil.     

Do you ever find yourself, lamenting your current situation while also choosing not to dwell on how your actions may have contributed to the situation?

Psalm 12 assures us that we can trust in God’s Word no matter our current circumstance because our Word arose on the third day.

Sometimes we forget that Jesus is a person.

God is at work, all day, every day. He is here, he is with us. He will not leave us. Psalm 74 reminds us that if we cannot see goodness and light in front of us right now, we must look back.

Do we come openly to the Lord with our struggles, because of our hope of salvation or do we close ourselves off to Him because what’s going on now is too hard and too harsh?

We can always go to the character of God as we seek Him and cry out to Him in  any circumstances, being grateful for His mercy and grace that new each morning and will sustain us as we seek Him.

Have you been grieved by the oppression in the world?  Have you been on the receiving end of that oppression?  Do you feel like God has hid Himself in a time of trouble?  It’s okay to be honest about feelings like that.  And in the same way David did, you can express them to the Lord.

I initially had a hard time thinking through what I would write about this psalm. This is clearly a psalm of praise. Pretty straightforward. Not something that inspired deep theological questions or challenged me in my faith. But as I thought about it more, I began to see the beauty in the simplicity of this psalm.

Psalm 53 is a wonderful model for us and reminds us to not let our current predicaments overshadow our true hope in Christ.

Psalm 141 is a beautiful example of how we can pray against evil and temptation.

Do you hear it? Do you hear the yearning in the voice of a loving father, of One who whose heart breaks for the welfare of his children?

Do you desire to make space to dwell with Lord in your everyday life?

No matter the suffering, we cannot white knuckle through the painful tears of our own sin. We must cry out like David, “O Lord…”

Can you come to God in prayer when life is difficult and when life is easy? In other words, are you honest with God when you pray? Are you even honest with yourself when you pray?
